Foi
divulgada a lista dos indicados ao Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards
de 2003, que premiará os melhores de 2002. A premiação, considerada o
Oscar dos quadrinhos, acontecerá na convenção San Diego ComiCon
no dia 18 de julho. Estão concorrendo mais de 40 editoras em 25 categorias
diferentes.

Os juízes deste ano são Andrew D. Arnold (do site da revista Time),
jornalista Jen Contino, o agente da distribuidora Diamond Steve
Leaf, o lojista Jeremy Shorr e o ilustrador Charles Vess, que já venceu
o Eisner Award.

A diversidade de material indicado este ano foi bastante grande, isso
fez com que editoras pequenas e pouco conhecidas como Absence of Ink,
Sasquatch Books, Sparkplug, Too Hip Gotta Go e Shoto
Press, entre outras, aparecessem na lista.

"O que mais me agradou este ano é a variedade de publicações e formatos
de editoras de todos os tipos e tamanhos", disse Jackie Estrada, administradora
do prêmio.

Este ano também teve indicação para um quadrinho que é publicado na internet,
na categoria Melhor Nova Série. Trata-se de Justine
Shaw's Nowhere Girl.

Entre
as principais editoras, a DC
Comics, mais uma vez, lidera no número de indicações com 23, sendo
que a série Fables, da Vertigo, recebeu quatro.

Logo depois vem a Fantagraphics,
com 18 indicações, seguida pela Marvel
com sete. A Dark
Horse e a Image
Comics aparecem na lista em quatro categorias cada.

Em Hall da Fama, Hergé (Tintin) e Bernard Krigstein (que trabalhou na
extinta EC Comics) foram incluídos. Serão escolhidos outros quatro
nomes de uma lista de 12 indicados.
